Freddie Yauner designs products and installations that aim to engage and inform. He is concerned with exploring the state of the world through designed objects.He uses Design as a tool to question assumptions and push boundaries, often using humor to increase accessibility to complex and challenging ideas.

Yauner gained a distinction in Design Products from the Royal College of Art, and is a lecturer and researcher at Northumbria University school of Design. His work spans from small products to public artworks, he is a world record holder and is the co-founder of a web based charity.

Yauner’s work has been included in the Permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art, New York and The Design Museum, London.

We spend our lives being directed by signage, but what do the signs get up to when they have no one to tell what to do? Reactive signage, giving a look into the lives of overworked pictograms.

Site specific instalation for Sleepless exhibition at the Great Eastern Hotel. When people were present, the sign would function, but when the space was empty the overworked pictogram would take a well earned break, that is until he was needed back at work!
Flash animation controlled by a motion sensor.animation aprox 3mins. Click animation to make the fire exit man go back to work.

Signs of life is an Edition of 11 – one of which is part of the Permanent collection at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

1 Download and cut out the markers

2 Hold a marker up to your webcam, and see what happens. (Make sure the webcam is on…)

3 So now you know the magic of AR, stick one marker on a blank sheet of card, and draw the body, so it joins up with the head.

4 Hold your drawing up to the webcam and see it come to life.

This installation was produced for the V&A village fete. Visitors to the event were invited to attempt to retrieve the precious diamond and escape with the spoils whilst avoiding the laser beams. If a beam was broken, the security team would intervene and accost the crook.

The most precious and exquisite jewel in the V&As collection is out of the vault and on display, just in time for the Summer Fete.Your mission (should you choose to accept )is to get inside the gallery, carefully avoid the laser trip wires, grab the priceless ‘Green Diamond, and get out as quickly as possible without sounding the alarm. Break the beam and you’re finished, your mission a failure.

Can you keep a steely nerve and steady hand to make yourself a small fortune?

Shift.ms

Shift.ms is a social network run by its users where young MS’ers meet, share and support each other. I am the Co-founder and Creative Director of Shift.ms, I started the Charity with my good friend and George Pepper who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when he was 22. We have been working together to build Shift.ms for the past 5 years, launching the web platform in 2009.

We are building towards a community run social network for young people with MS, a disease that is most commonly diagnosed in your 20′s and 30′s.

We received a Peoples Award grant from the Wellcome Trust in 2010 to develop Research.ms in collaboration with Professor Gavin Giovannani, and his research team at the Blizzard Institue at Barts QMUL. Reserach.ms aims to build a two way dialogue between MS’ers and MS researchers, through a web magazine and live events.
