To mark the occasion of the first Ashes Test to be played in Wales, I was been awarded The Ashes Residency Commission. The Match was Drawn is the first permanent output deriving from the residency period. There is a second exciting ceramics piece still looking to find a home…
During the 5 day test match, I asked the crowds to try and draw the ashes urn (the highly prized yet diminutive trophy )to the size they thought it was. I collected 500 drawings over the course of the match and translated those drawings into digital files, which I then used to create the fencing panels for the final installation. The introduction of digital review technology
is a hot topic in cricket currently, and the computer bent wires that make up the fence panels reflect this. Large sports events are so often remembered for the players and the grounds they are played in, hopefully with this piece some focus is shifted back to the supporters, who allow these events to happen but often get forgotten.
