Freddie Yauner’s red flag is a bold, uncompromising statement, a clear communication by the artist, and those who fly it, that everything is not OK. By raising the flag, we are issuing a call to action to Save Our Soil. Viewed for too long as dirt or dust, soil is in fact a hugely rich, complex material, connected to all other life forms and central to the health of our planet. And yet, in pursuit of monetary profits, human societies have neglected or exploited the wellbeing of our soils and we now find ourselves in a precarious planetary position. If we want the earth to continue housing and nourishing us as well as its non-human inhabitants, now is the time to act.
